Goonellabah Workers Sports have completely dominated the Ballina Bears on Day 1 of their LJ Hooker League clash in Ballina.
The Bears won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to set GWS a decent target to chase late on Day 1, but it was not to be.
Goonellabah's bowling attack tore through the Ballina batting lineup, with just two batsman making double figures.
The Goonellabah side bowled Ballina out for just 56 in 27.1 overs.
Damian Santin led the charge with 4/17 off 9 overs and Alec Watson took 3/27 off 6.1.
Opener Josh Healy took 1/5 off 8 tight overs and Kaleb Armstrong added 1/7 off 4 overs.
With plenty of time left in the days play, GWS lost early wickets with Tom Gregory (18), Andrew Kemmis (0) and Armstrong (3) all falling early before Ben Cooper dominated the Bears attack, hitting 103 not out off just 89 balls including 9 fours and 4 sixes.
GWS had taken first innings points and declared on 4/134, looking for an outright victory.
At the conclusion of Day 1 play, the Bears were in trouble again at 3/32, with Armstrong taking 2/22 and Josh Healy 1/10.
Goonellabah will look to end the match early next Saturday, taking the remaining 7 wickets for outright points.
