Goonellabah clash with Hornets in match of the round

Goonellabah Workers Sports will travel to Cudgen on Saturday for the match of the round in LJ Hooker League action.

The Round 16 clash will be played at Reg Dalton Field and sees the ladder-leading Goonellabah side looking to keep their position against the fourth-placed Hornets.

There should be plenty of runs on offer, with wet conditions last week resulting in low scores across the competition.

Callum Gall and Alec Williams have been in good form with the bat for Cudgen, and the Goonellabah attack will be looking to take wickets early.

Goonellabah's Alec Watson leads the LJ Hooker League bowling with 27 wickets, and opener Reece Gregor has been in good form with the ball in recent weeks.

The team's big hitters were quiet last week, and big scores are expected from the Cooper brothers, Ben and Jack and Kevin Warid, who had 60 off just 31 balls against Casino two weeks ago.

Watson, and captain Brady Toniello have not been named in the side, with Michael German, Reece Gallagher and Tully Churton all named as replacements.

Marist Brothers will host Pottsville at Oakes Oval and will be looking to return to the winners list after not registering a victory since Round 10, when they defeated Lennox Head.

The Marist Brothers youngsters have impressed in the 2025/26 season, with Cooper Williams the side's leading run scorer with 428 runs, and Tom Molloy leading the charge with the ball, taking 17 wickets to date.

Jeremy Perkins will be a boost for the side, as will the addition of Luke Collings and Andrew Munroe.

Brothers sit just 3 points ahead of Pottsville and will be looking for a controlled effort with the bat and plenty of wickets from the bowling attack, to take the points from the northerners.

Both matches will commence at 1:00pm on Saturday.
