If it’s not fires, it’s floods!
Lismore City SES Unit will host a free flood awareness meeting on Wednesday, November 27 at 6pm - and everyone is invited.
Lismore City SES flood intelligence officer Ed Bennett said all members of the public, both business people and householders should come along to make sure they are aware and be prepared for the next flood.
“It is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ you will be impacted by another severe weather or flood event,” Ed said.
“SES staff will make presentations, but an important part of the meeting will be a general discussion and question and answer segment.
“The meeting will focus on being aware of weather conditions which can lead to flooding; sources of information; and how to best prepare for and cope with a flood.”
Ed said an important part of that was to have a flood plan which is a personal statement of “what to do and when” as the flood develops.
Some of the items of discussion will be:
• Do you know about River/Flood Gradients?
• Are you aware of when it is an adequate time for you to lift and shift?
• Are you aware of what to watch for with the flood rising and when it’s time for you to evacuate?
• Do you have an emergency plan in place with contacts to come and help you?
• Are you aware of which media outlets to listen to and get advice at the time of a flood event?
If you are planning to attend, please let Ed know by phoning 0438 219 400 by Monday, November 25.
