Most of the region’s lush landscapes and quirky towns are only a short drive away. So, if you fancy a drive, outlined below are some of the best places you can head to.

That said, before you head off, make sure your car is road-ready. This includes ensuring that your car has the correct registration and you’re covered by mandatory CTP green slip. If unsure, you can get a green slip quote with NRMA Insurance or another similar provider.

1. Lismore to Nimbin

Located only 30 minutes northwest, Nimbin is one of the most iconic day trips you can take from Lismore. The drive takes you through a captivating stretch of lush valleys and small farms, which leads to the village.

Famous for its alternative culture, street art, and local markets, there is plenty to see and do here. You can grab a coffee at a local café, visit the Nimbin Candle Factory, and browse the local galleries.

If you want to experience the creative spirit of the Northern Rivers, this is as good a place as any to do so.

2. Lismore to Bangalow and Newrybar

Bangalow’s heritage streets are filled with art galleries, homeware stores, and charming cafés. So, it is a lovely place to spend a few hours.

It is only a half-hour drive from Lismore, but the beauty of the rolling hills you’ll pass by is so compelling, you’ll wish it were longer. We recommend stopping at Newrybar en route for a relaxed lunch at Harvest. A local institution in this welcoming town.

3. Lismore to Byron Bay

A one-hour drive northeast brings you to Byron Bay. A place where the hinterland meets the sea.

The journey itself is a scenic drive near Lismore, which passes through Bangalow’s boutique shops and lush farmland. Once you reach Byron, you can wander along its comely beach, enjoy a surf or dip at Wategos, or peruse the local markets.
