Football returns after extended wet

Football Far North Coast competitions will hopefully encounter slightly dryer grounds this weekend after a more positive week of weather.

As previously reported, hundreds of matches across both junior and senior football competitions have been postponed in recent weeks.

It has proved to be a nightmare for organisers, with grounds still waterlogged and ground staff finding it difficult to prepare the fields.

With the next 7 days looking fine and sunny, additional catch-up matches will hopefully be scheduled midweek.

It is also hard to get a read on the form teams of the competition, with teams only playing between 1 and 3 matches in the first 5 rounds of the senior competition.

On Friday night, the Men's Premier League match between Goonellabah Hornets and Richmond Rovers has been postponed, with Weston Park still too wet.

The other match to be played will be South Lismore and Byron Bay, which will hopefully go ahead at the Celtics home ground.

On Saturday Bangalow will host Alstonville and MBVFC and Ballina will clash, with Sunday's match between Maclean and Lennox Head also scheduled to be played.

In Women's Premier League, Friday's match between Ballina and Rovers was postponed, and on Sunday Pottsville Beach host Alstonville, Shores United host Lennox Head and

South Lismore will take on Byron Bay at 2:30pm in South Lismore.
