With the potential for minor flooding for Lismore and parts of the Northern Rivers, you are reminded not to drive through floodwaters, as roads become submerged.

This was emphasised by a number of flood rescues in the upper catchment, north of Kyogle, this morning.

The Kyogle SES reported that their Flood Rescue members were called into action to assist after a vehicle was swept into floodwaters at Collins Creek, about 17km north of Kyogle.

The occupant was able to self-extricate and cling to trees in the middle of the creek.

SES crews conducted a successful boat rescue, and the person was treated for exposure and shock.

The SES reminds you that floodwater is unpredictable, fast-moving and far more powerful than it appears. It only takes a small amount of moving water to carry away a vehicle.

"Our crews remain ready to respond and support our partner agencies whenever required — but the safest rescue is the one that never has to happen."

Lismore City Council has closed Tuntable Creek Road, at Rose Road and Gungas Road at Black Sheep Crossing.

Council will also be closing the flood gates at Hensley Carpark and the Rowing Club Carpark from 5pm today. No cars should be left in these carparks over the weekend.
