Fatal light aircraft crash near Nambucca Heads

Emergency services have responded to a fatal light aircraft crash near Nambucca Heads today.


About 4.00pm (Saturday, 4 January 2024), emergency services responded to reports of a light aircraft crash in the ocean, approximately 1.5 kilometres southeast of Nambucca Heads.


The pilot and passenger of the aircraft died at the scene and are yet to be formally identified. 


Officers from the Mid North Coast Police District attended and, with assistance of the Marine Area Command, have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.


The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is assisting the investigation.


Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
