A man has died following a vehicle fire at Sandy Flat, near Tenterfield.

About 4.45am this morning (Friday ,1 November 2024), emergency services were called to Bruxner Highway, about 3km east of Snake Creek Road, Sandy Flat, following reports of a vehicle fire.

NSW Rural Fire Service crews arrived at the scene to find the vehicle destroyed by fire.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended and found a man deceased close by the vehicle.

The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 70s.

A crime scene was established and an investigation has commenced into the circumstance surrounding the incident.

As investigations continue, police urge anyone who may have witnessed the car fire – or has any available dashcam or mobile phone footage - to contact New England Police District or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
