A scoreline that very few would have predicted highlighted the Men's Premier League match between Alstonville FC and Richmond Rovers on Friday night.

Leading into the match, Rovers sat on top of the ladder with 6 wins and one loss, equal with South Lismore. Villa FC sat in fifth position, with 3 wins, 3 losses and a draw.

The ladder positions meant nothing as Villa FC went on the attack from the first whistle, with James Fleming scoring after just 15 seconds and five team touches of the football.

The pace of the Villa attack caused the Rovers defence consistent problems and after 20 minutes, Eli Gambley slotted the home sides second.

From the ensuing kick off Fleming beat Rovers keeper, Chris Jones for a second time and Villa led 3-0 after just 21 minutes.

At the 32nd minute mark, a deflection from a Rovers defender was leapt on by an enthusiastic Ede Warneke who slotted their fourth.

Six minutes later, Fleming nailed his third goal and this was followed by a goal to Brodie Parker just prior to half time, giving Villa FC and amazing 6-0 lead at the break..

Rovers Coach Brian Bugden had plenty to talk to his troops about, with all six goals in the first half coming from one on one contests on an isolated Jones.

The onslaught continued nine minutes into the second half, with Jack Scarlett hitting a brilliant volley into the back of the net.

Jono See scored a consolation goal late in the 8-1 loss.

Rovers were able to tighten things up as the half continued and got back a consolation goal from Jono See, before Scarlett finished of an emphatic victory 8-1.

Villa FC Coach Dave Gambley was excited about his sides win but momentum will be difficult with the teams next match scheduled for Friday 18 June after a break for the June Long Weekend.

If Rovers can take anything away from the huge loss, it is that last time the side had a similar scoreline under Brian Bugden, they lost 8-0 to Byron, the side went on to with the Minor and Major Premierships
