It feels as if Lismore and its residents have dodged a bullet today with rainfall well below expectations so no flash flooding leaving the Wilsons River peak well below the CBD levee wall height of 10.6 metres.

The current prediction from the Bureau of Meteorology is for the Wilsons River to peak at 8.4 metres at 8pm meaning this has been a moderate flood.

Of course, a moderate flood has affected the usual low lying areas like Simes Bridge, Hensley Car Park, Orion Street near Simes Bridge, Woodlawn Road near the Turf Club, Alexandra Parade near the showground entrance and Caniaba Road near the airport.

NSW SES has said you may now return safely with caution to the following area(s):

• Lismore CBD
• Lismore Basin
• Low-lying areas of East Lismore
• Girards Hill

Flood levels have dropped but you should take care when returning to the area as flood damage can be widespread and utilities may not be in service.

Evacuation Orders remain current and in place for North Lismore and South Lismore.
