Following yesterday afternoon's fallen power pole incident on River Street on Fishery Creek Bridge, West Ballina, Essential Energy crews are conducting a thorough investigation.

A statement from Essential Energy said:

It is understood the street light pole fell on the road at River Street, Ballina at about 4:15pm yesterday (Wednesday, 17 July).

Power was isolated to 3,068 customers following safety equipment being operated after a fault was detected on the network.

Once crews arrived, they were able to isolate the fault, restoring power to majority of customers about 5.30pm.

Power was restored to all customers just after 6pm

It is understood that a vehicle driven by a member of the public was damaged in the incident, and the driver was taken to hospital by emergency services.

The welfare of the driver and the safety of the public is our highest priority.

Essential Energy thanks customers for their patience and understanding.

The public is reminded to remain at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines and to report them immediately by calling 13 20 80.
