Essential Energy explain last night's blackout

Last night's power outage north of Lismore at approximately 6:30pm left 3,380 homes without electricity, wondering how long the blackout would last.

The Essential Energy website indicated a fix would be in place by 2am this morning; however, power was restored at 7:35 last night.

An Essential Energy spokesperson told the Lismore App there was a fault detected at the Dunoon Zone Substation.

"Safety equipment automatically operated within the Zone Substation, isolating power to customers across Bexhill, Blue Knob, Clunes, Coffee Camp, The Channon, Dunoon, Rosebank, Federal, North Lismore, Nimbin, Stony Chute, Mount Nardi and surrounding areas, keeping customers safe until crews could investigate," the spokesperson said.

"Crews were deployed immediately, identifying a fault in an underground cable requiring a transformer to be replaced. Power was safely restored to all impacted customers by approximately 7:35pm last night.

"Essential Energy reminds the public to stay at least eight metres away from damaged electricity equipment and report immediately to Essential Energy on 13 20 80, or triple-zero if life-threatening."
