Racing will commence thirty minutes earlier, at 5pm on Saturday for the annual running of the 50-lap Wingless Sprintcar Grand Prix at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.

The fixture is governed by COVID-19 restrictions with no more than 500 people allowed to attend the stadium. There is an anticipated high number of competitor entries and promoter Dave Lander felt it necessary to move the commencement of the meeting forward half an hour.

“We are confident this will be by far the best entry list of the season to date, though our overall numbers still have to be within COVID-19 regulations,” Lander said.

“There has been a particularly good response from the Wingless division which is pleasing for our first long distance main event of the season.”

Ground entry point for the general public is the eastern pavilion end gate, which will open at 4pm.

Newcastle based Brock Gardiner (Gardiner Motorsport entry) will make his third trip north on the freeway this season, while other drivers on the road to Lismore include Mitchell Bootland, Tim Harris, James Grady and Tony Grant.

The Grand Prix has enticed David Eggins out of semi-retirement and he was an early entry amongst the nominations headed by last start main event winner and Lismore regular Robbie Mazzer.

Jacob Jolley, who won the season opening feature race on October 17, will be a part of the impressive line-up that also includes Shane Costello, Michael Butcher, newcomer Seiton Connor Young, Mick Reid and Aaron Moss.

Lismore Wingless personnel also report V8 Dirt Modified driver Ray Eggins has entered and he will jump behind the wheel of the Mason Cattell car.

The Northern Rivers Wingless Sprintcar contingent have received good sponsorship support for the half century marathon with backing for the race from Lismore Nissan & Kia, Campbell Shed Products, Santin Quarry Products, Cutting Edge Mowers, Mahindra Tractors, Global Lubricant Distributors, Wrapt Signs and RJ Britt Painting.

Time trials and heats will determine the final starting line-up for the 50-lapper which pays $600 to the winner, while the runner-up pockets $400 and third place will receive $300. A total of $2,000 will be paid out overall to the top 10 finishers.

There's plenty of racing divisions on the variety programme with events for Mod Lites, AMCAs, Production Sedans, Street Stocks, Junior Sedans and National Four Cylinder Sedans.
