The CBD is about to get its Domino's Pizza back but via a new concept the national pizza chain is trialling, mobile Domino's Pizza trucks.

Local Domino's Pizza franchisee Oryssa Van Keuk told the Lismore App this is the first of nine mobile pizza trucks for regional areas that are too small to qualify for their own physical store. Of course, Lismore received the first truck because of the February 28 megaflood that wiped out the CBD store off Ballina Road near Subway and Grill Shack.

Oryssa is a Northern Rivers girl having grown up in Mullumbimby. After the floods, Oryssa started thinking about her mother and how she should be closer to her to support her and see her more.

One thing led to another and Oryssa became the new owner of the Domino's Pizza Goonellabah store about two weeks ago and not one to shy away from hard work, is looking at taking over the Lismore store with the mobile truck as the first step.

Domino's and pizza is not a new venture as Oryssa owns the franchise at Beaudesert, west of the Gold Coast all at the tender age of 29. One of the local entrepreneurs in a time where the community needs some real get up and go.

That is reflected in the hours that Oryssa works.

"I think we're clipping about 70 hours each week for the last two and now they've just thrown the truck at me so we'll see."

The truck makes the perfect disaster recovery vehicle with its solar panels and generator so it doesn't need to be plugged into mains power.

As you can see by the photo's, the inside doesn't have a lot of room, however, this truck can turn out an amazing number of pizzas in a very short time.

"I can make 130 pizzas in half an hour so 260 pizzas an hour can fit through these ovens. To give you an example, I can make one supreme from start to finish in 13 seconds including saucing the base."

It is a little competitive throughout Domino's with pizza-making competitions, the fastest pizza-making where they get to compete at a Gold Coast convention where the six best teams perform live on stage. It's pretty exciting."

Apart from finding accommodation locally, Oryssa is having difficulties finding staff and is looking for about 20 delivery drivers.

"They weren't really taking deliveries out of Goonellabah for the last three months because I think they were trying to handle large volumes of sales so couldn't really handle the delivery side of the business. For us I think that's kind of what Domino's has to offer, delivering pizzas is a big, big selling point."

"So, I am looking for about 20 delivery drivers just to handle the whole area."

For the truck itself in The Quad car park, Oryssa is in need of 10-12 staff to work inside the truck.

"Not all at once obviously, we can have four at one time in the small space."

The good news is that you can start ordering Domino's Pizza's online from the CBD truck this Saturday from 4pm but it will be pick-up only at this early stage before adding deliveries once the kinks are ironed out.

"We are open 4 to 8pm for the first week then we'll split trading hours in the second from 11am to 2pm and 4 to 9pm.

To get through the next three months, Oryssa has asked a friend to come down from Queensland to help her operate and run two new businesses.

If you or anyone you know would like some work in the CBD or Goonellabah, you can apply here.

Domino's helps various communities through a central organisation Domino's for Good, where money is distributed to charities like Lifeline and Orange Sky, which Lismore knows only too well.

"We also have a Feed The Need program. Anyone can go onto the Domino's website and apply for a pizza grant."

"I had one recently in our Beaudesert store where a single mum who lived down the street was nominated by some neighbours after her car broke down that week and she was having a mental breakdown."

"It is nice that, as a franchisee, there is a lot of small stuff that happens so you can help out."

Domino's Pizza is back in the CBD Saturday from 4pm to 8pm with ordering online and pick up only at this early stage.
