‘Dark Science:New Moon’ at Lismore Quad this Thursday

Celebrate National Science week at the Lismore Quad tomorrow afternoon and evening (Thursday) with an event packed full of art workshops, stargazing, music, activities and markets.

Workshops run throughout the day and include community cartography (map the internal and external through art), ecoliteracy storytelling (did you know we are connected to flowers, seashells and dinosaurs every day of our lives?) and solar dye jars (Connect to Country through the science of natural dyes).

You will need to book in for workshops via lismorequad.org.au. Some are free, others are $5 to cover materials. The Northern Rivers Healing Hub will also be running weaving workshops for people of all ages (no need to book for this).

The New Moon Markets will run from 3pm, including a pop-up library to explore the science (and art!) of sound, light, colour and magnetism. Create different harmonics on a string and amplify the sound with a cup. See how light is made of many colours and use coloured inks to create art illustrating the mixing of colours. See the pattern of a Magnetic field and levitate objects. These activities are suitable for all ages.

Come and gaze at our beautiful Southern Sky up close - North Coast Astronomy will have five large telescopes set up for the community to access, and will be targeting Saturn, bright clusters and nebulae.

Live music with Cloudbeard will start at 6pm, experimenting with the science of sound, and there will be a warm fire, OMGDONUTS and hot beverages available to seal the deal on what promises to be a vibrant community gathering under the stars.

These activities will run alongside the regular farmers market, yet another reason to come along and join in the celebrations.

‘Dark Science:New Moon’ is proudly funded by Inspiring Australia as part of National Science Week. This event is supported by the Lismore Quadrangle, The Lismore Regional Gallery, The Lismore Library and Lismore City Council.
