Craig Foster imagines an Australia of the future in Byron BayCraig Foster AM, Guest Speaker at Byron Community Centre on 26th May.

The Gilchrist Foundation is having its next fundraising night featuring former local sporting superstar Craig Foster.

Following a decorated football career as Australia’s 419th Socceroo and 40th Captain, Craig has become one of Australia’s most respected sportspeople as a broadcaster, social justice advocate and human rights campaigner.

Highly awarded for his work in sport and human rights, Craig is also the 2023 NSW Nomination for Australian of Year.

Craig will return home to the Northern Rivers for a one-night-only presentation at the Byron Community Theatre from 6pm on Friday 26th May to present on a number of topics including Reconciliation and Independence, The Voice and The Republic.

The Master of Ceremonies who will be ‘In Conversation’ with Craig is another well-known local, Mick O’Regan.

Chat with Craig, Mick and the Gilchrist Foundation team over a pre-presentation supper and drinks with the bar open after the event.

Funds raised from this event will be used to provide a new sports scholarship for a disadvantaged or disabled student at Griffith University or Southern Cross University.

‘We find, we fund and we foster’ is Stan and June Gilchrist’s driving vision behind the Gilchrist Foundation.

Executive Director Stan Gilchrist explains that the Foundation is engaged throughout Australia via tertiary studies programs and other welfare, educational and sporting activities to identify disadvantaged students and young sportsmen and women to further their education or sporting skills through financial assistance.

“We want to extend our scholarship program as fast and far as possible so events like this with a local identity such as Craig are extremely valuable to us. Thank you Craig”, says Stan Gilchrist.

All four of the Gilchrist’s children, including world-class cricketer and Lismore-raised Adam Gilchrist, were given opportunities to pursue their interests and all understand the importance of scholarships to enable educational or sporting opportunities.

Tickets to attend the fundraiser can be found at https://drct-gilchristfoundation.prod.supporterhub.net/events/craigfosternew-event-046 or via the Foundations website at https://gilchrist.foundation/
