In the wake of the washed out meeting last night and the COVID-19 aborted Sprintcar fixture on Tuesday, January 12, a degree of uncertainty surrounds next weekend's Junior Sedans Nationals event at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.
Wet weather wreaks havoc with Speedway
While yesterday's fixture, featuring the grand final of the Mr Modified Series and the return of Speedcars, was called off after heavy rain the previous day and overnight left the ground saturated, the recently imposed COVID-19 new restrictions and Brisbane lockdown curtailed January 12 and continues to threaten the January 16 Lismore meeting.
With Queensland competitors involved, border closures are a significant obstacle standing in the way of the Lismore Showground Speedway.
“COVID-19 continues to make life difficult in the community, let alone our events where both New South Wales and Queensland speedway competitors are involved,” promoter David Lander said following the cancellation of the January 12 Sprintcar fixture.
Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway was scheduled to host the penultimate round of the Super Seven Sprintcar series in what promised to be a superb night of Sprintcar racing.
The Junior Sedan Nationals are set down for decision at the January 16 meeting with other categories also programmed.
At the time of writing the Saturday, January 16 meeting is still scheduled to be run, but COVID-19 developments during this week will monitored.
Lismore Speedway is also seeking to reschedule of the Mr Modified series grand final.
