Council provides update on Caniaba recreation upgrades

Lismore City Council has released what upgrades will occur at the Caniaba recreation facilities based on public feedback from a June community BBQ and an online survey.

"We’re ready to transform the space into a versatile and inclusive environment for everyone," council said on its Facebook page.

Phase 1 improvements will include:

  • Multipurpose Court: The existing tennis court will be converted to accommodate tennis, basketball and pickleball, all on a new, durable acrylic surface.
  • Synthetic Cricket Nets: Two new cricket nets will provide local cricketers with dedicated training facilities.

Phase 1 is expected to be completed by 30 June 2025.

Phase 2 of the recreational upgrades is planned for delivery in four to six years, depending on available budget or grant funding.

Phase 2 improvements will include:

  • Playground Relocation: The current asphalt basketball court will be transformed into a playground area, offering a better experience for all users, with seating and a wider variety of play options.

As part of Phase 2, council will explore options for replacing the playground, focusing on expanding the play space, enhancing variety and ensuring accessibility and safety in the design.

Detailed designs will be shared with the community once they are available.
