Goonellabah residents know only too well that the roundabout on Simeoni Drive is a joke.

It is a couple of circles painted on the road that serve to manage traffic flow into the Woolworths carpark.

The roundabout was initially installed following the 2022 natural disaster when Goonellabah handled not only its regular local traffic but also the CBD's due to the closure of Lismore Square and Central.

Road safety audits now recommend that the roundabout be formalised.

In the 2024-2025 financial year, Council plans to upgrade the informal roundabout and pedestrian facilities on Simeoni Drive within the Goonellabah shopping precinct.

The works will include:

  • A centre concrete dome for a mountable centre island
  • Signage and line marking
  • Concrete medians and pedestrian refuges for safe crossing
  • Re-marking of existing pedestrian crossings

The works are planned to start in the early part of the 2024-2025 financial year. Council will provide more information, including the start date and duration, prior to the project commencing.

If you have any questions please contact Council on (02) 6625 0500 or email council@lismore.nsw.gov.au with the title ‘Simeoni Drive Roundabout’.
