Community invited to help shape Reconciliation Action Plan

Lismore City Council is inviting community members to participate in an upcoming consultation session to help shape its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

This session provides an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, along with the broader public, to share their insights and contribute to meaningful reconciliation efforts.

The session will be held at the Lismore Central Shopping Centre on Wednesday, 19 February. Community members are welcome to drop in anytime between 10am and 2pm.

Lismore City Council General Manager Jon Gibbons emphasised the importance of community involvement in shaping the RAP.

“Reconciliation is a shared journey, and we want to ensure that our Reconciliation Action Plan reflects the voices and aspirations of our community. Meaningful engagement with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents is crucial in building strong, respectful relationships and creating positive change,” he said.

To support the consultation process, Council has engaged Tim Roberts from East Coast Heritage and Archaeology. Tim will work with the community to gather input that will help shape the new RAP.

Currently in the community consultation phase, the RAP will outline practical actions Council will take to strengthen relationships, promote respect and create opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

These consultation sessions will provide an open forum for discussion and valuable feedback to guide the plan’s development.

Additionally, a Your Say survey is now open for community contributions. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas by visiting https://yoursay.lismore.nsw.gov.au.
