There is not much in hockey that Clint Mallett has not achieved.
And this weekend at the Goonellabah Hockey Complex, another milestone will be reached.
Mallett will stride onto the turf in Goonellabah this weekend for an extraordinary 60 consecutive years, a milestone that will be celebrated. And what makes it extra special, is that it is with his beloved East Lismore Hockey Club, formed in 1948.
He will play his C Grade game at 2:15pm on Turf 2 on Saturday and at 3:45pm East Lismore A Grade and East A Reserve Grade Men will play each other and there is something special in store for Clint.
There is no doubt a large crowd of supporters, fellow players, friends and family will gather to celebrate such an amazing milestone.
The celebrations won't end there for the humble gentleman of the game, with further surprises organised in the clubhouse afterwards.
It is unknown how many games Mallett has played for the club, but it is safe to say that it is a mark that will never be broken.
Mallett has achieved so much with and for the East Lismore Club, whether it is his 60 years of playing service, coaching, umpiring, volunteering or giving his time back as a Committee Member for the club, association or state, he is the perfect example of a true club person.
Clint joined East Lismore Hockey Club in 1964 as a ten year old and first took up an administrative role for the club in 1972.
Clint was an Association Coach and Junior Association Secretary from 1977 and has held coaching roles for the club ever since.
For his service to the sport, Clint was awarded life membership of the East Lismore Hockey Club in 1983/84 and a Life member of the Far North Coast Junior Hockey Association in 1985/86.
During 1987 Far North Coast Hockey Incorporated was formed, and he was the founding secretary of that group.
Clint has held various roles, including treasurer of the FNC Men’s Association, the most significant being President of Far North Coast Hockey Inc for 16 years from 2000 to 2015.
In that time the group facilitated the development and construction of the FNC Clubhouse and the upgrade of Turf 1 from a sand filled to water filled surface. In conjunction with the Late Tony Porter, he headed up the restructure of the Association by combining the Men’s Hockey Association (Juniors as part of men’s) and Women’s Hockey Associations into one Far North Coast Hockey. This was introduced for the 2015 season.
Mallett has represented NSW on a number of occasions, winning several Championships in Masters age groups over the years, including a Gold in Over 65's Division 1 in 2019.
Having resigned as President for the 2016 season he became the Complex Manager and held that role until 2019 and then took on the acting Secretary role in late 2019 until (currently still in that role).
Mallett was a part of the group that facilitated the development and construction of Turf 2 and the upgrade of Turf 1 to new water filled surfaces.
Mallett continues to play and also passes on his knowledge and experience to junior (and senior) teams as a coach and mentor.
