Far North Coast Hockey players Phil Garred and Clint Mallett were part of Hockey NSW's Over 65s First Division side that won the gold medal at the Australian Men's Masters Championships in Bunbury and Busselton, Western Australia.
Mallett, who plays for the East Lismore Hockey Club, said the NSW Over 65s beat their counterparts from Queensland in a Penalty Shootout after the match ended one goal all.
"It was very exciting and it was a fantastic competition. We played nine matches in 13 days to reach the final and I was happy when it was over," said Mallett, who played right striker.
"We are the best Over 65s team in Australia."

It was his third gold medal at the Australian Men's Masters Championships, with two previously playing in the Second Division.
Paul Leadbeater, who plays for the Lismore hockey club Northern Star, won a silver medal in the NSW Over 60s side in Division One. Leadbeater was then selected to represent Australia in the World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa, 2020.
Mark Finch and Paul Leadbeater, of the Northern Star club, have both been selected to represent Australia in the World Cup in November 2020.
Gold medals are also being worn by Far North Coast Hockey players Wayne Porter, Peter Ryan and Robert Ward who were part of the successful NSW Over 55s.
Four Far North Coast Hockey players - Jamie Beddoes, Anthony Carney, Troy Robson and Grant Smith - were part of the NSW Over 45s team that won bronze.
In the Over 60s Division Two competition, NSW won gold with the help of Far North Coast Hockey players Mick Bodley, John Laycock and Eric Littler.
David Brown, who plays for Coraki, has been named as Vice-Captain for the Australian Over 50s side to travel to Cape Town, South Africa, next year.
