CBD Parklets to get shade

The two parklets on Keen and Molesworth Street in the CBD will be removed over the next few days so Lismore City Council (LCC) workers can install some much needed shading.

The parklets are part of a NSW Government funded program to attract people into the CBD by providing more spaces for people to sit & relax while shopping or eating and to provide more safe seating options during COVID. They were installed by LCC in December last year to the chagrin of some who didn't like losing two car parking spaces and to the applause from others who like the progressive thinking.

Early public feedback was that the seating area was far too hot in summer due to the lack of shade provided. The result was empty parklets for much of the time.

LCC have listened to the feedback and will provide shade whilst moving the parklets to new locations.

The LCC Facebook page said "We’re also looking at how we may improve their accessibility for everyone to enjoy."

"Once completed, the parklets will reappear at two new locations. We will let you know soon about where and when we plan to re-install the parklets that are designed to help activate our city centre."
