The two extremes of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail are now in operation with the Casino to Bentley section officially opened yesterday.

The new Casino to Bentley section runs 13.4km and means 37.4km of the 132km rail trail has now been completed with construction of the Lismore to Bentley section underway.

There was great excitement at the Old Casino Railway yesterday morning when the picturesque section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail was officially opened.

Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg joined Tweed Mayor Chris Cherry and Richmond Valley Mayor Robert Mustow at the opening event showing Council’s support for this important project for the region.

With cyclists, families and outdoor enthusiasts eagerly exploring the trail's stunning scenery, excitement mounts for the anticipated completion of the Bentley to Lismore section, scheduled for completion in late 2024.

With the Tweed section already exceeding expectations, drawing in over 14,000 visitors each month, the Northern Rivers Rail Trail is set to be a major driver of regional tourism.

Funded by the Australian Government's Building Better Regions program, the Lismore to Bentley section promises to unlock opportunities for local businesses and communities.
