Casino’s Beef Week Cup is being held today, however due to issues with the Casino track, it will be held at Lismore Turf Club.

Racing NSW Stewards inspected the Casino track ahead of the meeting, and identified some concerns with certain parts of the course which are unsuitable for racing.

Casino Racing Club President John Walker said he was disappointed in the decision.

“We are extremely disappointed that Racing NSW deemed it necessary to transfer the Beef Week race meeting from Casino to Lismore,” he said.

“The Casino track has been under renovation for some months and stewards believed that two small parts of the course would not sustain racing on Friday and the track could become unsafe.”

“The decision is a great disappointment to the Club and to the town as the Beef Week Cup is a central part of Beef Week celebrations which draw many people back to Casino.”

“It is also a significant financial blow to the club who were also unable to conduct last year’s Cup meeting, following the major flooding that occurred, and have been unable to race this year because of the work on the track.”

Casino’s loss is Lismore’s gain, with the Country Showcase meeting now to be held at Lismore Turf Club. It’s an eight-race card, with the first race to jump at 12.15pm.

Breakfast with the Butchers is being held this morning until 9am, which includes the infamous Cow Pat Lotto, sausage judging, and busking competition finals.

Tomorrow is Beef Week Saturday, with Casino’s CBD closing for markets and street food, among the wood chop comp, whip cracking and pie eating!

Then in the evening, the Beef Week Rodeo and Mr Beef competition are sure to draw a big crowd.
