Brothers and GWS continue their winning run

Marist Brothers and Goonellabah have continued on their winning ways in Round 3 of the LJ Hooker League on Saturday.

Marist Brothers hosted Terranora Lakes on a flat and hard Mortimer Oval and the runs flowed for both sides.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and made it difficult for the Brothers bowlers.

The first wicket did not fall until the score was on 89, with the remaining top order digging in, in hot conditions.

The home side used 8 bowlers to change up the attack and it eventually proved beneficial late in the innings, with Terranora finishing with 8/223.

The run chase did not go to plan, losing Andrew Munroe for just 4 in the opening over before Cooper Williams strode to the crease to join Joe Parsons.

The pair then but on 46, before Parsons went for 21, with the score at 2/50.

Williams was again at his best, top scoring with 85 not out, with Luke Hamshaw adding 48, batting at seven to edge Brothers closer to victory.

The Marist side managed to pass the total (6/224) in the 39th over, squeezing out a narrow win.

Brothers will be again at home on Saturday when they play Tweed Banora Colts.

In Pottsville, Goonellabah Workers Sports won the toss and sent the home side into bat, which proved to be a great move after Kaleb Armstrong's opening spell.

Armstrong demolished the Pottsville top order, eventually finishing with the impressive figures of 5/14 off 8 overs.

Ben Cooper continued his all-round abilities taking 2/25, with Brady Toniello and Kale Hare collecting a wicket each to see the home side finsh with 9/148 off their 40 overs.

The fast start that has been a showcase of Goonellabah's batting this season failed in Round 3, with Goonellabah in trouble early at 2/4 and 3/21.

Kevin Warid put together an unusually steady innings, adding 18 off 66 balls before Ben Cooper slashed 37 and Damien Santin (24 not out) and Nathan Bezrouchko (44 not out) passed the total 6 wickets down in the 34th over.

Goonellabah will be on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Bilambil to play Terranora.
