Lismore Speedway Junior Sedan driver Zac Brims is preparing to make a move into Super Sedans.

It all comes down to one more race meeting in the Junior Sedan class before me takes the big step up to an open division next month, having served his apprenticeship in Juniors over the past four years.

“Lismore is where I started my speedway career driving Junior Sedans and that's where I want to finish it before going into the next phase of racing,” Zac, 15, said this week.

Zac will bring down the curtain on his time in Junior Sedans at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway, Saturday night, January 22.

Zac, who turns 16 on February 2, will race a brand new Chevy Camaro Super Sedan out of the local Danny Smith Rocket workshop.

Zac entered the Junior Sedan ranks aged 12 and he says he owes so much to the Juniors for giving him the opportunity to race speedway. 

“They are everything,” he enthused, “a platform to start off in speedway and a great learning curve.” 

Running a very competitive Datsun Sunny, Zac has been prominent in the division's main events over the years and he recently also set a new lap record at Toowoomba. 

His racing career traces back even further than the past four seasons in speedway after he entered Quarter Midgets aged five and ran in that class until 12 years of age.

The Camaro is brand spanking new, straight off the Rocket Racecar assembly line. Everything in the car has the latest component – including the CT 525 crate engine developing over 550 horsepower.

Zac is meeting the Super Sedan challenge head-on and he wants to “give it my all and do the best I can.”

But there is another motivation when he straps into the Camaro at Gympie Speedway on February 5 for his first meeting in a Super Sedan.

“I don't want to finish at the back of the field but, more so, to hunt down my brother, Hayden.” The three Brims brothers are ultra competitive – and always have been.

Hayden, 18, is in Super Sedans, while the younger brother, Jackson 12, races in the Juniors in the “New Stars” category.

Zac's second appearance in the Camaro will be back at his home track, Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway, scheduled for February 19. The Brims family are racing through and through under the guidance of Wayne Brims. His dad, Ross, and Wayne's uncle Ian, who recently retired, are Lismore Speedway through and though.

NOTE: This weekend (January 22) at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway also will feature the appearance of TWO MONSTER trucks performing incredible stunts in addition to antics by the "roll over" bike and a wall of flame stunt in addition to a full speedway race car programme.
