The Lismore App's Kate Coxall is at the waste facility.
There are four additional fire trucks with 11 personnel at the scene including the hazmat truck on the ground to assist.
They are fighting to control the fire.
It is marked as a hazardous fire in a well-ventilated area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but doesn't look suspicious at this stage.
Residents are advised to avoid the area. The tip is still closed.

There are reports that the scrap metal section of the Lismore City Council Recycling and Recovery Centre is on fire and the facility is closed.
A Lismore App reader said he was turned around at the tip gates as they were being closed with four fire engines trying to contain the fire.
It is believed the smoke has died down and the tip is still closed.
