The Bureau of Meteorology has given Lismore and the Northern Rivers some fantastic news this morning, the updated rainfall amounts have decreased significantly since yesterday.
The Lismore App story on Tuesday had the BOM forecasting up to 85mm today and tomorrow (Friday) then there was the Flood Watch issued by NSW SES for the Wilsons River yesterday. It all looked a little gloomy.
This morning, the forecast rainfall is 8 to 15mm today and 4 to 10mm on Friday so 25mm worse case scenario (all being equal) as the upper-level trough off the Queensland coast moves more offshore than was initially expected.
The coastal areas will still receive more rainfall than towns inland with Ballina expecting up to 50mm over the two days.
While the Flood Watch is still on the BOM's warning page, we could expect this to be removed at 1 o'clock this afternoon when the next update is released.
The long stretch of sunny days ahead will still kick of on Saturday, maybe in the afternoon as the trough contracts south. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are looking good with the cold westerly winds kicking in on Tuesday when the temperature drops to 17 degrees from 22 on Monday. The mornings will feel like winter when the mercury drops below 10 for the first time in quite a while.
As George Harrison wrote, "Here comes the sun".
