Ballina Road, Goonallebah accident causes long traffic delays

UPDATE 6:30pm

Ballina Road is all but clear.

ORIGINAL STORY

A car accident on Ballina Road near the Invercauld Road turnoff is causing long traffic for those travelling east.

The advice is to keep away from the area, and if you have to travel, go through East Lismore, up Cynthia Wilson and through Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah. However, the traffic queue has reduced in the last ten minutes..

Reports say the traffic was banked up to Lismore Base Hospital on Rotary Drive and before the Rotary Drive roundabout on Ballina Road.

It is believed a car was trying to turn right onto Ballina Road when it was hit, followed by another car hitting the rear of that car.

ADF personnel were near the accident and helping on scene.

More to come.
