A dramatic truck fire shut down part of the northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway near Knockrow just before 4:00am this morning, sending deodorant and aerosol cans rocketing up to 50 metres from the burning vehicle.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Station 213 Bangalow arrived to find a B-Double truck fully engulfed in flames. As the fire intensified, pressurised cans inside the trailer began exploding, scattering debris across the highway and creating a dangerous scene for emergency services.

Hazmat crews were called in to assist with the decontamination of firefighters amid concerns about possible hazardous substances on board.

The truck driver’s quick thinking helped prevent an even worse outcome. By disconnecting the truck and trailer, the driver was able to save part of the vehicle before the blaze took complete hold.

Firefighters worked swiftly to bring the situation under control, with the fire contained by approximately 5:30am. Traffic disruptions continue now into the morning, with one of the two northbound lanes closed as crews clear the scene and ensure the area is safe.
