Lismore Regional Gallery’s exhibition Chesta Drawz and the LowBoys has broken all sales records with 11 works sold for a total price of more than $87,000.

Gallery Director Brett Adlington said this is the largest amount of work ever sold by the gallery.

“Most of the buyers came from interstate, which is a good indication that the new gallery continues to draw visitors from outside the region, and who are supporting our local economy,” he said.

More than 7000 people visited the exhibition over the last six weeks, with 60% coming from outside the 2480 postcode.

The exhibition, which closed last Sunday, featured more than 60 works by Geoff Hannah and 26 of his students, some of who have been studying under Geoff for more than 19 years.

The works include intricate boxes, sideboards, dressers, mirrors, tables and two guitars. The pieces are made of woods including Red Cedar, Walnut, Ebony and Brazilian Mahogany.

Mr Adlington said the highest price paid was for Colin Fardon’s Inlayed Collectors Cabinet, which was purchased by a Queensland-based buyer for $68,000.

“This shows the high quality of work by our local woodwork artisans,” he said.

“I would also like to thank the buyer for agreeing to allow us to continue displaying this exceptional piece of woodwork at the Gallery for the next couple of months.”
