Appeal for witnesses and information following assault and robbery attempt at Spinks Park

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an assault and attempted robbery at Lismore yesterday afternoon.


About 5.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 22 August 2023), police were called to Spinks Park, Lismore, following reports of an assault.



Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived to find a 47-year-old woman with injuries including grazing to her face and a laceration to her arm.


The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.


The woman told police she was walking through the park, near Molesworth Street, when she was approached from behind by two men.



The woman was then pushed down an embankment by the men, where they demanded money before assaulting the woman.


The men fled the scene as a passer-by stopped to assist the woman, before calling police.


A crime scene was established at the park and has been examined by officers from Richmond Police District.


As inquiries into the incident continue, police wish to speak with two men seen in the area at the time of the incident.



The first man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance. He was wearing a dark hooded jumper with a red baseball cap.


The second man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance. He was wearing a dark hooded jumper with a white emblem on front, and a dark baseball cap.


Police would also like to speak with a passer-by who stopped to provide assistance to the woman following the assault and attempted robbery.


He was walking two dogs at the time and accompanied the woman back to a safe area to wait for police.
