ANZAC Day Commemorations ready to go ahead at Lismore Cenotaph

The City of Lismore Sub Branch of the Returned Services League of Australia – RSL – has today announced that this year's ANZAC Day marches and commemorative services will go ahead despite the recent uncertain times.

In a statement released today, the Sub-branch said they had withheld publication of commemorative activities for ANZAC Day 2021 due to the ever changing NSW Health directives.

"We now feel we can promote the Commemorations with a degree of certainty."

Wilson McClelland, Secretary of the Sub-branch, said "It's been a hectic couple of weeks trying to get schools back on board and notify everyone that its going ahead. It's a large undertaking."

All participants partaking in marches and commemorative services are to register with our QR Code. Lismore City Council will be arranging for copies of the QR code to be placed in and around the March assembly area and route. There will be sign-in books available for those who cannot access the QR code. Schools have been requested to keep a roll of marches. All spectators are to adhere to COVID social distancing rules.

Those attending the dawn service can assemble at the Lismore Cenotaph in the forecourt of the baths before 0500hrs. Those wishing to march assemble prior to 0500 hrs at the corner of Molesworth and Magellan St (old Post office) ready to step off at 0510hrs.

On completion of the dawn service the City of Lismore, RSL Sub-branch in conjunction with the Lismore Workers Club will host a breakfast for veterans and families, and others involved with the official service.

The main march assembly point is at the bottom end of Molesworth Street adjacent to Browns Creek Car Park at 0830hrs ready to step off at 0900hrs.

The main commemorative service and wreath-laying will happen at Lismore Memorial Baths. This service will commence on the completion of the march.

Mr McClelland said the badge selling will also return this year in the lead up to the day at key shopping areas around town.

"I think the general public will be pleased it's all going ahead."
