ANZAC Day 2023 is two weeks away - here's what you need to planAAZAC Day 2022 on Molesworth Street

Now that Easter is over for another year, it is two weeks today that Lismore and the Northern Rivers commemorate ANZAC Day 2023.

2022 saw large crowds at the Dawn Service and the Molesworth Street March after two years of COVID ruined any chance of groups getting together.

Lismore RSL sub-branch secretary Wilson McClelland has outlined this year's event:

The President and Members of the City of Lismore Sub-Branch would like to take this opportunity to invite Current Serving, Ex-servicemen and women and members public to commemorate ANZAC Day 2023 in Lismore in the following ways:

·     The traditional Dawn Service will be held at the Lismore Cenotaph commencing at 0500 following the March from the “Old Post Office Corner”. Form up for the march at 0450.

·     The Lismore City Bowling Club will host a Breakfast for Sub-branch members, Veterans, and their families on the completion of the Dawn Service. Non-veterans will cost $5.00 per head.

·      A commemoration service will be held at the North Lismore Memorial commencing at 0800hrs.

·     Main March Service and wreath laying Commence forming up at Browns Creek Car Park at 0830 for the main march along Molesworth Street stepping off at 0900 followed by the ANZAC Day Commemorative Service at the Cenotaph. All Veterans within the area are welcome to join the March and Service.

·     All are invited back to the City Bowling Club after the completion of the ANZAC Commemorative service, food will be supplied by Junkyard BBQ.

Fundraising

Fundraising is the principal method of income for the sub-Branch; as such, City of Lismore RSL sub-Branch will have ANZAC badges for sale in the week preceding ANZAC Day at Lismore Square, Goonellabah Shopping Village, Lismore Central, Workers Sports Club Goonellabah and also at Bunnings on the weekend of 22nd & 23rd thanks to members of the 41st Battalion.

"Whilst badge selling is important to us, we fully realise the trauma and financial hardships suffered by the community with last year's disaster and still suffering will influence many in their ability to support us and we as a sub-branch fully understand that."

"We would like to thank the community for the generous support we have received to date."
