All round effort from Lindsay secures win for Brothers

An all-round effort from Tom Lindsay has helped Marist Brothers return to the winners' list on Saturday in the LJ Hooker League.

Lindsay contributed with both bat and ball against Pottsville at Oakes Oval in his first season with the club.

Marist Brothers won the toss and elected to bat on a good Oakes Oval pitch in hot conditions.

The openers got off to a stronger start than previous weeks, adding 35 before Pat Martin fell for 15.

Fellow opener Joe Parsons added 20 before Lindsay and Cooper Williams paired up for a 123 run third wicket stand, which put Brothers in a strong position.

Lindsay eventually fell for 61, with Williams adding 89 before his dismissal.

Sam Cottee finished on 23 not out in the Brothers' total of 5/239.

In reply, Pottsville started slowly with the top order getting starts but not being able to go on with it.

First change bowlers Jeremy Perkins (1/15) and Harrison Gillett (1/10) took the openers before spinner Tom Parsons picked up 3 wickets in the middle order, finishing with 3/19 off 8 overs.

But it was Lindsay who had the side back in the sheds, celebrating a big 148-run victory, taking the last 5 wickets.

Unfortunately, he missed out on a hat-trick but finished with impressive figures of 5/19 off 7 overs.

Marist Brothers will travel to Casino next Saturday to take on the Cavaliers at QE2 before the final round of the LJ Hooker League competition on Saturday 7 March when Brothers and Goonellabah clash in a final round local derby.
