The hills and countryside are still looking lush and green, the scenery that makes the Northern Rivers so beautiful to drive around. However, there are some brown patches showing up on lawns throughout the region after a few weeks of warm weather and little rain.
That is about to change later today as a low-pressure trough makes its way from the west once again, this time reaching Lismore and the Northern Rivers.
Stephen Stefanac from the Bureau of Meteorology told the Lismore App there is the possibility of large hail and damaging winds this afternoon associated with the low-pressure trough crossing the state so be aware there may be a warning later in the day.
Tomorrow (Monday) more moisture will feed into the trough as conditions ramp up in the northeast part of the state so there is a risk of heavy rainfall as well as thunderstorms and damaging winds. This could lead to localised flash flooding.
While Tuesday will see a shower or two, another low-pressure system will develop on the Queensland side of the border on Wednesday bringing cooler temperatures with it. The mercury will drop to 23 degrees then another three degrees on Thursday to 20.
This coastal trough will develop into a low off the Queensland coast bringing heavy rainfall to the north of the NSW/Qld border from Wednesday night. The Sunshine Coast will feel the brunt of the impact from the trough and at this stage, it doesn’t look like it will cross the border.
The rainfall will vary throughout the north coast with heavy rainfall more likely as you head towards the border. Our rainfall will have quite a range between 10 and 40mm so varying moderate falls are expected with showers moving onshore.
After Thursday the weather pattern calms down and settles with the odd shower or two hanging around.
