After the hottest day in 2025, 37 degrees in Lismore, the last being January 24, when the mercury hit 36 degrees, the winds will turn southerly at 15-25 km/h, bringing cooler conditions and much-needed rain to the Northern Rivers.
To make matters worse for about 1200 Goonellabah residents, there was a power outage around 4 o'clock this afternoon, switching off air conditioners in the heat of the day. The number of affected homes is down to 29, around Taylor Road, ws we write this story.
With lawns and the countryside starting to brown, the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting between 20mm and 50mm for Tuesday.
The rain could start falling around 11pm and be more consistent around 8am tomorrow. The BoM says there is a 75% chance of at least 20mm for Tuesday.
We may even see some jumpers making a return tomorrow, as the mercury drops to 18 degrees before hitting 21 on Wednesday.
The rain won't move away quickly, with a shower or two, the forecast for the rest of the week. We can expect 0-6mm until Sunday, when we should see a partly cloudy day.
