Affordable Beauty's salon revives in Southside Kristy Saad in the new salon in Southside.

As she paints a customer’s nails in shades of pink and orange, Affordable Beauty owner Kristy Saad was in a happy place.

Kristy has finally reopened her South Lismore beauty salon – but in a new location on Union Street.

The salon is now in the shop where the newsagency used to be.

The rebuild

For Kristy, there was never any doubt that she would rebuild after the flood.

She had bought the new shop building late last year – well before the February flood devastated Lismore.

“It was always our plan to build here,” she said.

“I’m a Southie through and through. I was definitely coming back. We love it down here. This is our home and we are all about community down here.”

After the February flood hit Southside hard, Kristy said she had the flooded shop cleared in two days.

“It was still a mess in Southside,” Kristy said. “Many people couldn’t get in to help.

“We lost everything in the shop even thought we lifted everything to the above the 2017 flood level.

“The water went to the ceiling.

"I only saved the front door bell. It’s still covered in mud and I’m going to put it in this salon as a reminder of what we went though."

Support

Kristy said it was thanks to the support of her suppliers that she was able to reopen the shop with everything she needed so quickly.

“I put out a call to my suppliers and they helped me get back on my feet,” she said.

“One of the companies started a flood appeal and raised $10K and gave each person affected by the flood $3K.”

What’s in the shop?

In the new shop, there are brand new massage chairs with foot spas.

Kristy said people can book in for a special foot spa treatment, or might get a massage treat while visiting the salon.

“We also have a massage room, a new tanning booth and we just introduced an infrared sauna,” she said.

Kristy’s employee Tom said the sauna was great for detoxing and great for the heart as the body heated up from the inside.

From eyelashes to nails, skin and feet, the salon offers many new services including LED facials and body scrubs.
