A mid-season update for local cricket

The Christmas/New Year break is always a good time for clubs to sit back and analyse their team's fortunes so far and look to see where improvements can be made to push for finals positions in the New Year.

With plenty of cricket still to be played in the 2025/2026 season, we look at where each team sits and the players to watch.

In the Far North Coast Cricket Council (FNCCC) Second Grade (South), the Ballina Bears (71pts) are undefeated and well out in front of the competition.

Evans Head (53) is in second spot, just three points ahead of Marist Brothers (50) and Lismore Workers (50), with a gap back to Tintenbar East Ballina (38) and Goonellabah Workers Sports (35), who will fight for semi-final spots in the second half of the season.

Ballina's Hamish Clacher leads the run scoring with 433 at 54.13, from Marist Brothers Daniel Hamshaw, who has 401 at 44.56, and Lismore Workers Kye Myers with 372 at 46.5. Brad Walker leads the charge for Goonellabah Workers Sports with 280 at 40.

It is tight at the top of the bowling statistics with Marist Brothers youngster Sam Ianna leading with 26 wickets at 10.81, closely followed by Lismore Workers Jason Caught with 25 at a miserly 8.16.

The Lismore District Cricket Association (LDCA) competitions are also displaying several impressive performances across the grades.

Norths (59) lead the A Grade competition from Casino (47), Marist Brothers (41) and Lismore Workers (27), with Brothers Paul Simes leading the runs with 289, from Casino's Paul Johnston on 281.

Ryan Duyker has impressed for Norths with the ball, taking 22 wickets at just 4.5, with teammates Jason Castle (14 wickets) and Anthony Armstrong (14) also joining Duyker in the top four wicket-takers.

The B Grade competition is the healthiest, with 10 teams contesting the competition.

Goonellabah Workers Sports Teal (65) lead from Marist Brothers Mongooses (56), Kyogle (50) and Marist Brothers Jackals (49), with Easts (44) and Lismore Workers (43) looking to push for finals spots in the second half of the season.

Brothers Muhammad Kamran tops the batting with 299 at 42.71 from Goonellabah's Daniel Hunter on 232 and Tom Burnett with 202.

Burnett leads the wicket takers in B Grade with 22, one in front of Chris de Wall from Marist Brothers with 21.

All FNCCC Second Grade and LDCA Grade matches will resume on Saturday 10 January, with LJ Hooker League returning on Saturday 17 January.
