A Goonellabah teenager charged for alleged car theft

A Goonellabah teenager has been charged following an investigation into an alleged car theft at Yamba.


On the night of Monday 26 February 2024, a Kia Seltos was allegedly stolen from a home on William Street, Yamba.



About 1am on Wednesday 28 February 2024, the vehicle was seen on CCTV at a service station on Ballina Road, Lismore.


Police will allege that a 15-year-old boy was seen to exit the vehicle and pay for the fuel.


A short time later, police attempted to stop the Kia at Casino; however, it allegedly rammed a police vehicle and fled the scene.



The vehicle was located a short time later abandoned on Queensland Street, Casino, where it was seized for forensic examination.


Following extensive inquiries, police attended a home on Philip Street, Goonellabah, where they conducted a search warrant.


Police will allege that during the execution of the search warrant, two boys hindered their search.


A 15-year-old boy was arrested at the home before being taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.



He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a Children’s Court on Friday 5 April 2024.
