A big crowd was on hand to see the Robert Heathcote trained Flywheel take out the 2025 Lismore Workers Club Lismore Cup.
The crowd began lining up for the big day from 11am, with Trackside Tables, the VIP Marquee and the VIP/Members Luncheon all sold out earlier in the week.
The first winner of the day was Jimmy Nails, trained by Paul Shailer on the Gold Coast and ridden by Dylan Turner.
There were a number of success stories throughout the day, with jockeys Jake Baylis and Andrew Mallyon both riding doubles and Toowoomba based trainers Corey and Kylie Geran taking out the second and fourth races with Connecticut and Jack Be Lucky, respectively.
But it was Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn who stole the show, with three winners, including two quinellas across the day.
Dunn saddled up winners Warrior Bae (Race 3), Too Hot to Torque (Race 5) and Celebrity Torque (Race 6).
It was then on to the Lismore Workers Club Lismore Cup, a Big Dance Eligible race over 1526m.
Starzam led the field early, with Flywheel missing the start slightly and tailing out last in the early running.
Jockey Ben Looker did not panic on the 5-year-old gelding, settling the $7 chance into the race and slowly moving forward from the halfway mark.
Looker was then forced to go wide after entering the straight, sweeping down the extreme outside to post a half-length victory, from favourite Anythink Goes and local chance At Witz End, trained on the track by Danny Bowen.
Away from the racing, the Fashions on the Field was highlighted by colour, with florals being the popular choice amongst entrants.
Lismore Turf Club Secretary Manager Scott Jones was a man with a smile on his face after finally seeing perfect weather and a great track greet the meeting after several years of washouts and cancellations.
The club will next host a meeting on Sunday 19 October, with the Christmas Cup meeting scheduled for Friday 19 December.
