About the opportunity 

You will be responsible for spearheading the events program that elevates the profile and reputation of the University through strategic event management. 

A primary focus will be on developing, planning, and overseeing an annual SCU-wide events calendar while managing a team of event specialists across the University.

This includes responsibilities for staff recruitment, performance management, budget oversight, and workload distribution.

As the Senior Manager of University Events, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the University’s strategic priority of fostering engaged communities and partnerships, in alignment with the Strategic Plan 2030.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the University Events and Production Services teams, focusing on efficient delivery of major events, including graduation ceremonies and VIP events, while determining staffing needs and developing agile solutions for evolving circumstances.
  • Direct the planning and management of a comprehensive calendar of University-wide events in collaboration with senior leadership, while fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful event execution.
  • Oversee event budgeting in line with University policies, coordinate arrangements for high-profile stakeholders, and collaborate with the marketing team to promote events and engage target audiences effectively.

About you

You possess a track record in leadership, demonstrating the ability to inspire and cultivate high-performing teams, along with extensive experience in event management.

Your passion for creating unforgettable experiences is matched by your exceptional organisational skills, enabling you to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

In addition, you demonstrate: 

  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with clients and colleagues on all levels, including senior leadership 
  • Proven strategic, analytical and creative thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to utilise agile approaches to problem solving. 
  • Experience working in an environment which dictates high standards of protocol, attention to detail and professionalism. 
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management and cost control. 

Salary and benefits

This position is:

  • Full-time, fixed term (2 years) 
  • Located at either Gold Coast, QLD 4225, or Lismore, NSW 2480. Generous relocation support available.
  • HEW Level 8. The base salary ranges from $111,116 - $122,525 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation.
  • The total remuneration package is up to $142,879.
