Your opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Education is a vibrant and collaborative community committed to preparing future educators through innovative teaching, impactful research and strong engagement with schools and communities.

With a focus on student-centred learning and contemporary curriculum design, the Faculty delivers high-quality Initial Teacher Education programs across multiple disciplines and modes.

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Education (HSIE and Humanities) to play a key leadership role in a growing curriculum area.

This is a dual-focused position requiring expertise in Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) and History, alongside strong experience in primary Initial Teacher Education.

The successful candidate will contribute primarily to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) while also supporting related Humanities offerings within the Faculty as part of the Bachelor of Arts double degree.

You will make an impact by:

  • Delivering high-quality, student-centred teaching in Primary HSIE and Humanities, with a particular emphasis on History, across face to face, blended and online learning environments
  • Teaching into Initial Teacher Education programs, particularly the Bachelor of Education (Primary), with a focus on preparing generalist primary teachers
  • Leading and contributing to innovative curriculum design, implementation and evaluation aligned with the Australian Curriculum, accreditation requirements and University standards
  • Contributing to the Faculty’s research profile through high-quality publications, emerging grant activity and supervision of Honours and HDR students
  • Building and sustaining professional, community and sector partnerships that enhance teaching, research and engagement outcomes

What you will bring

You are an experienced and collegial academic with a strong commitment to primary teacher education, curriculum excellence and scholarly impact in HSIE and Humanities.

You thrive in collaborative environments, bring enthusiasm to teaching and mentoring, and are motivated to contribute to the Faculty’s teaching and research profile at a national level.

To succeed in this role, you will also need:

  • A PhD or Professional Doctorate in History, Human Society and Its Environment or a closely related Humanities discipline, together with an accredited Initial Teacher Education qualification
  • Demonstrated excellence in tertiary teaching within Initial Teacher Education, including curriculum design and delivery using contemporary educational technologies across blended and online environments
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, particularly Primary HSIE and History
  • An established research and /or teaching scholarship profile appropriate to Level C, including publications and supervision of Honours and HDR students
  • Proven leadership experience in teaching, research and professional practice, including mentoring colleagues and contributing to collaborative academic teams
  • While not essential, experience or willingness to be involved in Professional Experience partnerships is desirable
