With a focus on fostering a strong safety culture, the FRP Safety Manager will play a key role in supporting our on-site functions, providing accurate and timely advice to Stakeholders, the Community, and Management.

As a manager, you’ll be instrumental in shaping a safety-first culture across the Portfolio, combining boots-on-the-ground credibility with the ability to influence senior leaders, operational teams, support teams and contractors alike.

  • Strong Safety Commitment - Proactive awareness of your own safety and others around you.
  • Robust understanding of the WHS Act and Regulations and Safe Work NSW.
  • Experience in Safety Management Systems and accurate reporting.
  • Confident in leading safety from the office and on-site
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, supervisors, and contractors to ensure WHS obligations are understood and met. 
  • Practical, people-focused, and driven to make an impact
  • Ability to conduct safety training and develop safety programs.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in safety inspections and audits.


 What you'll need to be successful

  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS, Health or similar related fields or extensive experience in WHS. 
  • SafeWork Construction Induction Certificate (WHS White Card).
  • TAE40122 - Certificate in Training and Assessment.
  • Strong experience in a similar site-based construction and Local Government role.
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing Certification, or willingness to attain.
  • Investigation Certification for Lead Investigators (ICAM or similar), or willingness to attain.
  • Lead Auditing Certification, or willingness to attain.
  • Tickets in plant operation, working at heights, and confined spaces.
  • Strong Safety Commitment - Be proactive and aware of your safety and that of others.
  • Understanding of the WHS Act and Regulations and Safe Work NSW.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional details

  • Salary: Attractive remuneration for the right candidate. 
  • Term Contract: contracted hours of work 70 hours a fortnight up to 30 June 2027.
  • Closing date: Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate pool is established.
  • Location: The position will based at our Flood Portfolio Office in Lismore. Flexible work options are available, working within operational requirements. 
  • Conditions of Employment: Conditions of employment are in the Local Government (State) Award and relevant Council policy, procedures, and agreements.
  • Pre-employment Screening: Before employment, pre-employment checks may be conducted, including health assessments, validation of the right to work in Australia, validation of qualifications and licenses, criminal history checks, psychometric assessments, and referee checks.
