Safe communities, sustainable development and supporting our local economy. Revitalising our town, respecting First Nations knowledge, and recognising the unique villages in our catchment. These are the things that are at the forefront of the Greens vision and why I am standing in this local government election.
Lismore is the heart of the Northern Rivers, it may be a little broken, but with good governance and leadership that’s focused on the wellbeing of everyone, as well as the land and rivers which sustain us, I truly believe we can flourish. And it’s the Greens that can make this happen. Given that things are a little unwell, the time is now.
As a criminal defence lawyer at the Aboriginal Legal Service, I get to see first-hand that disadvantage and homelessness are key drivers of crime. If elected to Council, I would try and advocate for more services to be funded to address mental health, drug and alcohol issues, as well as to set up a youth hub in Goonellabah.
It is my view that no one is completely safe until everyone is, and having a home is key to that. Any future housing developments should have environmental sustainability and the ability to cater for a diversity of future households and incomes, at their centre.
In the 25 years I have called Lismore my home, I have completed my law degree, raised two wonderful children and been blessed to be a part of this community, which I would love to serve as a Councillor.
