My name is Jennifer Baker, and I grew up in Casino. Four years ago, my husband and I moved back after 20 years in Sydney.
After university, I raised three children, managed the accounts for a small building company and have been a self-employed bookkeeper and BAS Agent since 2000. We joined the Rural Fire Service in 2002 and are still active members today. I’m also a keen member of the CWA, a welcome outlet for my baking!
I have been involved with and supported the Citizens Party for almost 20 years and decided to stand as a candidate for Page because of my concern for the direction this country is taking. I fear for what the next generations will inherit. Will they ever be able to buy a home, educate themselves or their children, or afford healthcare?
Neoliberalism has wrecked our country! It’s caused deindustrialisation and the wholesale sell-off of state-owned assets, including the old Commonwealth (people's) Bank, given away for a pittance! We’ve gone from a proud, productive manufacturing nation to a service/consumer economy and have undermined our agricultural sector.
Small businesses employing over 5 million people are under constant threat from the policies of the major parties, which are controlled by the Big Four Banks and other vested interests.
We don’t have “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” We must regain our sovereignty and refuse to be dictated to by the USA and UK, say NO to senseless wars, and stop selling off our land and assets to foreign powers. We CAN rebuild our country if we have a Post Office People's Bank that acts for the public good, and which brings real competition and integrity back into the banking system. Please stand with me. Together we can effect change where everyone has a chance to flourish
