Janelle Saffin - Labor

Janelle Saffin - Labor

I am seeking your continued support to be re-elected as your local Member in the NSW Parliament, having served the past four years as your strong advocate as we responded to bushfires, drought, floods -- the worst in Australia’s history and the fourth most costly disaster worldwide in 2022, and the regular day-to-day issues.

Throughout our most challenging times, I have been there each and every day, fighting, cajoling, advocating for our community’s needs, taking on the role of community champion.

I am now asking for your precious vote, to be able to continue to do the job of rebuilding, and reshaping the better future we all want and need.

We can do this and I am determined, working together, to make it happen.

2022 was a year to roll out the recovery.

2023 is the year we rebuild better to be future ready.

Nothing will stand in my way to get us what we need.

I have fought tooth and nail to have governments deliver what our communities need, taking it up to the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition directly, and worked co-operatively with local MPs and at the highest level in Sydney across political parties to ensure that the people in the Lismore Electorate and the wider Northern Rivers region are heard, justly treated and not forgotten.

Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation -- I have delivered for our region the Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation and the newly-created NSW Reconstruction Authority, together with the $700-million Resilient Homes Program (Federal/State) and $100-million Resilient Land Program (State). The Corporation is not perfect nor faultless but it is ours in this region. Better than decisions being made for us by far-away public servants.

With your support, I shall continue to be our community champion to get the job done.

Housing ends homelessness -- The Northern Rivers has a long and growing waiting list for public housing. My plan, my commitment, is to fix this.

Healthcare – I back in NSW Labor’s commitment to minimum and enforceable safe staffing levels in our major hospitals. I will seek and secure our share of 1200 extra nurses and midwives and an extra 500 paramedics promised by NSW Labor.

Education – I welcome NSW Labor’s commitment to ensuring that more of our casual school teachers get permanency and are freed of administrative burdens so they spend more time in classrooms. I am committed to the rebuilding of TAFE after 12 years of the Coalition cutting it to the bone.

Roads – I have continued to advocate to Government a boost in funding to fix local and regional roads, and landslips. I have been advocating for priority regional roads costs to be taken over by the State Government as promised by Nationals at the last State election.

The natural and built environment -- For too long we have not paid sufficient attention to our environment both built and natural. My experience informs my actions now, not in the distant future. It is time now for us to seek agreement, if we can, about the actions we can take together to see that the future environment for our children and grandchildren is secured.

Community infrastructure – Throughout March I will announce a range of small and major election commitments for a range of community infrastructure projects to benefit the Lismore Electorate and further enlarge on issues addressed in this document.
